Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany

8/28/14
We decided to go with a bunch of our friends to our first Oktoberfest in Germany, so we purchased our tickets for a table in one of the many tents in Munich months in advance thanks to the lovely, Orienna!  After staying the night at Cary and Orienna's, and having an amazing bacon and sweet potato breakfast bake, we headed to the Vilseck train station.  At the train station, there was Cary & Orienna, Orienna's cousin, Ralf (I may have misspelled his name), Cary's friend (that I can't remember his name right now), Sandy & Jake, Pete & Marta, Marta's sister, Ruth, Jayde, Elaine & Tony, Mike & me.  We were meeting up with more people once we got to Munich.

It was a little cold at the train station but we knew it was going to get beautiful so we didn't worry too much.

We rode to Nuremberg and then took another train the rest of the way to Munich.  We kind of took naps on the second train since we had gotten to the train by 7:45a.m. and we were all a bit tired.

When we finally got to Munich, we made our way through the craziness of the crowds to our Oktoberfest tent.

We finally made it to our tent and were shown upstairs to our tables.  The tables were set with delicious appetizers that we assumed were part of what we paid for...not so lucky, but it was too good not to purchase!  Sneaky Germans!

Now THAT is a beer!
We got to the tent around 11:30 I think and we had our tables for four hours.  By the first "Mass" beer I was already feeling it but we kept eating, drinking, and talking.  There were lots of trips down stairs to use the bathrooms which was an adventure all on it's own.  It was getting pretty rowdy down below and it was actually a lot of fun to be in that atmosphere of laughter and fun!

The waitresses can carry an impressive amount of beer all at once!

Prost!

After a bit, our chicken came.  We each got half a chicken in the purchase of our tent tickets.  I was thinking...it might be boring?  I was WAY wrong!  It was the best chicken I've ever had!  :)  Could be the beer talking but I don't think so!

After we were done eating, we walked around a bit more and then went outside to where some of our group was and had wine!

Pretzel sellers everywhere!
Once our tent time was done, we went and rode a couple rides and then Mike, Ralf, and I headed back since Mike and most of the guys had to work the next day.

It was a great experience but very expensive.  I know Jack would like to go to a smaller venue next year but I might have to try Munich again before we leave Germany!

Glamping in Slovenia: Part II

8/29/14
Day 1:
Jack couldn't go with me on this trip.  He ended up being in Poland during the days leading up to this vacation and would not have been home soon enough to make the 7.5 hour drive worth it so I asked my good friend, Sabrina, to go with me.  Luckily she said yes so I didn't have to drive and sleep all by my lonesome!  I went to Spain with her a couple months ago so I knew we were going to have a GREAT time!

Map of Slovenia
We packed up a bunch of delicious food and lot's of wine and headed out to Slovenia!  We were meeting up with our friends Cary & Orienna, Nick & Jayde, Pete & Marta.  The drive up was really fun actually.  Driving through Austria and seeing the beautiful country side and Alps while listening to James Patterson's Invisible, just can't beat a good novel and super funny company!  We actually high fived a couple times at crucial parts of the book!  ;)

We got to Lake Bled and checked in.  The "tents" were even more impressive than I was expecting and I have determined that I will go back at least one more time!  We even opted for the private bathroom, which was WAY better than an outhouse, or even the bathrooms in our own homes!

After getting settled we enjoyed a super delicious meal of home made chili with love by Marta and cornbread by me.  After drinking a lot of wine, hot tubing, and eating some yummy and powerful rum balls from the lovely Jayde, we turned in and got some sleep.

Day 2:
After we got up, we took all the dogs for a walk around the lake and met up with the guys to have cups of coffee, hot chocolate, and eventually beer!

After our lovely and slow morning, we went back to the camp and made breakfast.  When we were done with breakfast, we got ready for our hike through Vintgar Gorge.  The Gorge was pretty beautiful.  I believe it was almost 2 miles of the Radovna river, flowing over cascades and rapids, sometimes ending in clear pools.  The Vintgar gorge ends at Å um waterfall.  There is a cool little cafe at the top of the waterfall so people can take a break and have a snack or a drink.

We all went back to camp so we could take a trip around the lake in row boats.  One of my most important things that I wanted to do while we were there was to take a boat out to the island in the middle of Lake Bled to see the church.  Our guys swam out to the island and Marta and Jayde rowed out to pick up the guys.  They rowed back to us and Orienna, Sabrina, Marta, and I rowed out to the island.

When we were done with the island, we all went back and got ready for dinner.  We went out to a really neat restaurant that Orienna had been told was a great place to go for a nice dinner out.

Day 3:
After we woke up and had a nice breakfast, we checked out and started towards Bled.  We were going to go and check out the town and possibly go up to the castle.  Unfortunately it was incredibly busy and there were no places to park so Sabrina and I headed home.  The traffic was really terrible and it was raining quite a bit so it took us a long time to get home but we had our book so it was still a good ride home.  I really loved this vacation and we are already planning a Glamping trip to Sardinia for next June!
