Why A Travel Blog?

I am originally from Montana.  It is big.  It is beautiful.  I am still deeply in love with Montana and will always, at the very core of who I am, will be a Montanan first and foremost.  So why have I decided to start a Travel Blog?  I think a little background may be helpful...

I married my high school sweetheart in 1993 and plunged head long into the life of a military wife.  We had two beautiful children and moved every two to four years, dragging our little ones along for the ride.  We moved to 11 states and 13 cities and 2 countries in 25 years.  Our children had a chance to experience United States history first hand.  Whether it was going on a field trip to Wounded Knee in Oklahoma, or eating native Inuit Muktuk (whale skin) in Alaska.  Up to this point, they have lived a very full and exciting life.  We wanted to give them the world.  Not the trappings of it, such as cars or clothes or material things, but to give them every opportunity to experience different cultures, embrace the unknown, and never be afraid to try new things.

Our children have grown up in that world and have now started their own lives.  My husband and I still love our military life and aren't yet ready to retire and stay in one place.  Which leads me to this blog.  After 21 years of traveling and living in our amazing United States, we finally got a chance to do a tour of duty in Germany.  With that blessing, we really were able give our children the world!  Our son stayed with us during the summers, in between his college semesters and our daughter and boyfriend came our second summer being there.

This military life has given us the ability to really live life.  With our move to Europe, I felt truly blessed to explore our new home and those new lands.  I was overwhelmed by the opportunity to walk down cobblestone paths that had been here since before America was “discovered”, to taste foods never before heard of, to touch buildings that have survived wars, and natural disasters, and time.  I began this blog because I felt like I should keep a record of these experiences and places.  Not only to share them with our children, family, and friends, but to ensure I don't forget a single adventure!

Since this blog was started, we have finished up our time in Europe but not our time "adventuring"!

So let’s keep going. I hope you enjoy this blog and find it helpful to your own future travels.  I also welcome those that just like to live vicariously through my wanderlust. If you would like to know more about Captain Jack and me, check out the Pebble & Penguin Story.

I encourage comments that will add to everyone's enjoyment and knowledge.  Off we go!
